The alarm is there to stop the intruder, not just to alert the owner of the alarm that a burglary has taken place or is in progress.
The sound barrier emits an almost unbearable sound when activated to deter/stop the thief.
In a metal container, the alarm can be triggered even before the intruder has entered the object
with seismic detectors that detect if someone saws/cuts the sheet metal on the container.
This normally deters the intruder already when he knows that the alarm has been triggered.
